Who we are

Collision Assistant LLC (“Collision Assistant,” “we,” “us” or “our”) operates collisionassistant.com, a free service that helps California drivers find vetted collision repair shops after an accident and coordinates the vehicle side of their claim. We also work with personal injury law firms that refer clients to us for property damage help, and with the repair shops listed in our network.

Collision Assistant is not a law firm, insurer or medical provider, and we do not give legal, insurance or medical advice.

This policy covers our website, our online forms, and our phone, email and text message communications. It does not cover websites or services run by repair shops, insurers, law firms or other companies, which have their own privacy policies.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Contact details such as your name, email address, mobile phone number and ZIP code.
  • Vehicle details such as year, make, model and VIN, and any photos of the damage you choose to send us.
  • Accident and claim details such as the date and location of the collision, your insurance company, claim number and adjuster contact information.
  • Your messages, including anything you write in a form, email or text to us.
  • Your communication choices, including whether you agreed to receive text messages and when you opted in or out.

Information from law firms and others working on your claim

When a personal injury law firm refers a client to us, the firm may send us that client’s contact, vehicle and claim details so we can manage the property damage side of the case. Repair shops, insurers, towing companies and rental car companies may also send us estimates, repair status, rental and payment updates for files we manage.

Information from repair shops that list with us

If you list a shop in our network, we collect business details such as the shop name, contact person, address, phone number, email address, services offered and certifications.

Information collected automatically

When you visit our website, we automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site that referred you and the time you spend on each page. We collect this through cookies and similar tools, as described in section 6.

How we use your information

  • To match you with a collision repair shop that fits your vehicle, location and needs, and to help you request repair estimates.
  • To coordinate repairs, towing, rental cars, supplements, total loss valuations and diminished value paperwork on files we manage.
  • To answer your questions and send you updates about your request by phone, email or, if you agreed, by text message.
  • To keep records of your consent and your opt-out choices.
  • To operate, secure and improve our website and services.
  • To meet our legal obligations and to prevent fraud or misuse of our services.

How we share your information

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only in the situations below.

  • With the people handling your repair or claim, at your request. When you ask us to connect you with a repair shop or to manage your vehicle claim, we share the details needed for that job with the repair shop you choose, your insurance company or the other driver’s insurer, your attorney if you have one, and the towing or rental companies working on your file. They receive only what they need to handle your vehicle and claim.
  • With service providers. Companies that host our website, store our records or deliver our emails process information on our behalf, under contract, and may not use it for their own purposes.
  • For legal reasons. We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena or court order, or when needed to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, our business or others.
  • In a business transfer. If Collision Assistant is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, information may transfer to the new owner, who must continue to honor this policy.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar tools to keep our website working, remember your preferences and understand how visitors use our pages. Analytics providers receive browsing information such as the pages viewed and the type of device used. They do not receive your phone number or your text message consent.

How long we keep information

We keep your information for as long as we need it to handle your request and any related claim, and for as long as we must keep records for legal, tax or accounting reasons or to resolve disputes. We keep consent and opt-out records for as long as needed to show that we followed the rules for text messaging. When we no longer need information, we delete it or remove the details that identify you.

How we protect your information

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections on our website and access limited to the staff who need it to do their jobs. No method of storing or sending information is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and California privacy rights

  • Delete your information. You can ask us to delete your personal information, except records we must keep by law.
  • Stop communications. Reply STOP to any text message, use the unsubscribe link in any email or contact us directly.

California residents have additional rights. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act. Under California Civil Code Section 1798.83, you may ask whether we share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not.
